Description of each Work Package (WPs)

WP Number: 1 WP Title: Review of the literature
WP Number: 2 WP Title: Database development
WP Number: 3 WP Title: Econometric estimation of key macroeconomic variables
WP Number: 4 WP Title: Calculation and formulation of qualitative and quantitative measures of competition
Starting Month: 7 Ending Month: 12 Person Months (PMs): 3.02
Objectives To describe the qualitative characteristics and inquire into the quantitative aspects of capitalist competition in sectors of the Greek economy Description of Work 1. Our goal is to answer the following questions in order to get insight into the state of competition: a. Do we find evidence of oligopoly/monopoly in sectors of the Greek economy? b. Is mark-up pricing consistent with the evidence from sectors of the Greek economy? c. Do profit rates equalize across sectors? d. Is there a positive relationship between profit margins and capital-output ratios? e. What is the relationship between the variability of the profit margin and the capital-output ratio? Tasks 1. Inquire the existence of a tendency of the profit rate to converge across economic sectors 2. Inquire the existence of a positive correlation between the profit margin and the capital-output ratio 3. Inquire the existence of a negative correlation between the variability of the average profit rate the capital-output ratio 4. Present the qualitative evidence for monopoly/oligopoly structures in relevant sectors 5. Write a report on the tendency of the profit rate to equalize across economic sectors and the possible qualitative characteristics of the equalization process. Specifically report the state of competition for each economic sector classifying the sector as competitive or monopolistic Deliverables Deliverable D4: A report of the findings that includes the code used in the econometrics program Milestones 2nd Milestone: Basic estimations completed

Starting Month: 13 Ending Month: 18 Person Months (PMs): 3.02
Objectives To generate a mainstream macroeconomic model for the Greek economy Description of Work 1. Formulation of mainstream macroeconomic models for the Greek economy 2. Simulations 3. Policy alternatives experimentation Tasks 1. Fetch data from database created in WP2 2. Fetch econometric specification of key variables estimated in WP3 3. Apply the relevant specifications derived from conditions of competition inquired in WP4 4. Apply a mainstream DSGE structure in the model 5. Run econometric models using EVIEWS and DYNARE 6. Write a report of the finds including the source code of the econometrics program Deliverables Deliverable D5: A report of the findings that includes the code used in the econometrics program Milestones 3rd Milestone: Model estimation completed

Starting Month: 13 Ending Month: 18 Person Months (PMs): 3.00
Objectives To generate a Classical-Marxian macroeconomic model for the Greek economy Description of Work 1. Apply a Classical-Marxian structure in the model [including, but not limited to a split into productive and unproductive sectors, and the for of the state of competition] 5. Run econometric models using EVIEWS and DYNARE 6. Write a report of the finds including the source code of the econometrics program Deliverables Deliverable D6: A report of the findings that includes the code used in the econometrics program Milestones 3rd Milestone: Model estimation completed

Starting Month: 1 Ending Month: 24 Person Months (PMs): 2.56
Objectives The objective of this WP is to ensure through the monitoring of the flow of deliverables and the achievement of milestones that the project is completed according to the timetable set and within budget, Description of Work 1. The coordinator (principal investigator) monitors the flow of deliverables and the achievement of milestones according to the timetable and the budget set. 2. If deviations from timetable and/or the budget are found to exist because of known risks to the implementation of the project the coordinator takes affirmative action by executing the contingency plans described in Table 2.4 3. If deviations from timetable and/or the budget are found to exist because of initially unknown risks to the implementation of the project the coordinator first seeks advice from the Advisory Board and subsequently communicates the intended adjustments to the research team. The coordinator takes into serious consideration the proposals of the members of the research team Tasks 1. The coordinator will monitor the flow of work progress 2. The coordinator will organize meeting of the research team at frequent intervals 3. The coordinator will organize technical meeting of the research team as necessary 4. The coordinator will maintain an online archive of communications between the research team members Deliverables Deliverable D8: Rolling Quarterly Quality Reports indicating the progress achieved, the problems encounter and possible necessary adjustments to the workflow. Specifically, D8 consists of the final Quality Report assembled. Milestones 4th Milestone: Project completed
